Just one year after debuting one of his most breathtaking technical marvels with “The Walk,” Robert Zemeckis is storming back into theaters with the upcoming WWII romantic thriller “Allied.” Featuring Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt in their first feature film together, the drama already has an Oscar-friendly November release date and will certainly be on many prognosticator’s watch lists this awards season.
Pitt, returning to WWII once again after the success of David Ayer’s “Fury,” plays Max Vatan, a British intelligence officer who encounters French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) during a mission in Casablanca. The pair is reunited later in London and fall in love, though the horrors of war threaten to destroy their relationship.
Further plot details are remaining hidden, though the involvement of Pitt and Oscar winners Zemeckis and Cotillard is enough of a reason to get very excited for this one. PEOPLE has exclusively debuted the first official photo, which hints that the movie’s costume design will be just as gorgeous as its romantic leads.
Speaking to PEOPLE, producer Graham King said of the film, “Brad and Marion immediately had the utmost respect for each other, so once they delved into their characters, their chemistry was electric.”
“Allied” opens in theaters November 23.
