Adolescence is a difficult time for most everyone, and sometimes kids who are lost in their own environment will seek out direction from the unlikeliest sources. Chad L. Scheifele’s debut thriller “Natural Selection” follows lost teenager Tyler (Mason Dye) who heads to a new town with his depressed, alcoholic mother (Amy Carlson), trying to escape the emotional pain of his father’s suicide.
At his new school, Tyler is easy prey for the bullies that roam the halls, but he quickly befriends Indrid (Ryan Munzert), a nihilistic peer with a chip on his shoulder whose grim outlook on the world comforts and excites Tyler. Though he believes he’s found a kindred spirit, Tyler also begins to fall for Paige (Katherine McNamara), a relationship that threatens Indrid’s already fragile state. Soon, Indrid’s hatred of the school’s security officer (Anthony Michael Hall) and his lack of empathy towards other students begins to bubble to the surface. He starts to plan something that will destroy the lives of the everyone in town, and it’s up to Tyler to finally take a stand and defend those who care about him. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below featuring a tense conversation between Tyler and his mother.
“Natural Selection” will be released in select theaters and on iTunes and VOD on August 26 from ITN Distribution.
