If the movies have taught us anything, it’s that certain things will always be scary to huge swaths of viewers: clowns, children and, in the case of “Annabelle,” dolls. Part of James Wan’s ever-expanding horror umbrella, the film made nearly $256 million against a budget of just $5.6 million. A sequel was thus inevitable, and we now have a teaser for “Annabelle 2.” Watch it below.
Miranda Otto of “The Thin Red Line” and “The Lord of the Rings” stars in “Annabelle 2,” which is helmed by “Lights Out” director David Sandberg. Lasting just a minute and barely revealing anything, the clip (which is presumably more restrained than the actual film will be) shows Otto entering the room of a little girl hosting a tea party with two stuffed animals and a doll — Otto brandishes a cross as she repeats Annabelle’s name to little effect, then looks in horror as the girl’s body contorts and the room starts shaking.
Talitha Bateman, Stephanie Sigman and Anthony LaPaglia co-star in the film, which like the first “Annabelle” is a spinoff of Wan’s “The Conjuring” series. Warner Bros. will release the sequel on May 19, 2017.
