Say what you will about the middling and awkward “Fifty Shades Of Grey,” but there’s no denying it took a strong command of the box office and proved the sly charismatic charm of Dakota Johnson. Indie movie lovers know the great lengths the actress can skyrocket to thanks to this summer’s sensual “A Bigger Splash,” and it’s one of the reasons we’re tempted to check out “Fifty Shades Darker.”
Johnson reprises her role of Anastasia Steele opposite Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey. The pair are broken up following the events of the first film, but their mutual attraction doesn’t keep them apart for long. As they rekindle their romance, Steele learns more about her lover’s past, and dark old secrets resurface that threaten to derail them once again.
Following the rocky departure of director Sam Taylor-Johnson, “Glengarry Glenn Ross” and “Perfect Stranger” helmer James Foley has stepped in to direct this entry and the third followup, “Fifty Shades Freed.” The supporting cast includes Kim Basinger, Rita Ora, Bella Heathcote, Marcia Gay Harden and more.
“Fifty Shades Darker” opens February 10, 2017. Watch the trailer below.
