In Edoardo de Angelis “Indivisible,” Daisy and Viola (Angela and Marianna Fontana) are 18-year-old siamese twin sisters blessed with beautiful voices. In their hometown of Caserta, the two often sing at weddings, communions, and baptisms, and support their family with their earnings. But when they encounter a doctor who informs them that they can be separated, Daisy and Viola face an emotional decision about whether to lead “separate” normal lives or stay together. Meanwhile, their seedy businessman father is furious at the possibility of their separation because he wouldn’t be able to cash in on his daughter’s physical traits. The film marks Angela and Marianna Fontana screen debuts. As preparation for “Indivisible,” the two girls trained themselves to walk, run and swim fastened to one another, to best create the illusion that they were really siamese twins.
Angelis previously made his feature film debut with “Mozzarella Stories,” about an Italian cheese maker’s struggle with his business after the Chinese flood the market with a cheaper product. It was entered into the main competition at the 38th São Paulo International Film Festival.
“Indivisible” premiered at the Venice International Film Festival this past Sunday. It will have its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 12th.
