The Twitterverse had a field day yesterday after the first image of the new “Jumanji” movie was released and featured Karen Gillan wearing a belly-baring crop top and short shorts. Many called the outfit choice sexist and wondered why they dressed her in such a skimpy jungle costume.
Upon sharing the photo on his Instagram account, Dwayne Johnson had written, “Our dope 90’s vintage costumes will all make sense when our plot’s revealed. Truuuuuust me.” Yet people still complained about how Gillan’s costume was “super sexualized” and said that there better be a good reason for her outfit choice. (Others simply wished The Rock was “shirtless and in torn shorts.”)
I love Karen Gillan. Like, properly adore her. But if there isn't a good reason for that Jumanji costume we are BREAKING UP.

I know that the first Jumanji pic is very ???? but the rock said there's a reason why her clothes are like that and I trust him with my life.

In that Jumanji image I would not mind Karen Gillan's costume so much if the rock was shirtless and in torn shorts.

The backlash prompted Johnson to once again reassure fans that the film’s wardrobe will “all make fun sense” very soon. And given that there have been no plot details or character descriptions revealed, we’ll also put our trust in The Rock.
Ha yes Jill, thank ya for trusting me. Our costumes will all make fun sense soon.. #Jumanji ???????? https://t.co/Ik2N6PO3Uw

Gillan herself spoke out about her sexy look by tweeting, “Yes I’m wearing child-sized clothes and YES there is a reason! The pay off is worth it.”
