Perhaps encouraged by strong ratings for the rebooted “MacGyver” series, “MacGruber 2” apparently remains a possibility. Jorma Taccone, who co-wrote and directed the 2010 cult hit, tweeted today that “the writing hath begun” on a second installment in the would-be franchise. Pictured alongside Taccone is Will Forte, who co-wrote and starred in the first film and will presumably reprise both roles this time around.

“No joke,” he followed up just 15 minutes later, the second tweet accompanied by a photo of the “super rough draft” of the “MacGruber 2” screenplay dated September 17. The first film grossed just $9.3 million in theaters against a budget of $10 million but has amassed a loyal following in the years since its release.

Taccone most recently co-wrote, co-produced, co-directed and co-starred in this year’s “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” which received largely favorable reviews but likewise made just under $10 million at the box office. “MacGruber 2,” should it materialize, is likely a few years away from doing so.
