Hot off his Comedy Central roast and recently joining the cast of CBS’ “Code Black,” Rob Lowe has now signed on to star in “Super Troopers 2.” Per Deadline, the “Grinder” actor will portray Guy Le Franc, a former hockey player and current mayor of a Quebec Canadian border town.
“Whoop! Whoop! This movie is gonna be genius,” tweeted Lowe after the news was announced.
The sequel to the 2001 budding comedy, “Super Troopers,” was a result of a successful Indiegogo campaign created by Broken Lizard. With an initial goal of $2 million, the campaign raised more than $4.5 million for the film.
“Super Troopers 2” is once again written by and stars Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske of Broken Lizard, with Chandrasekhar directing. Production for the movie began in Boston last week.
Plot details are unknown at this time but the first poster for the sequel was released back in May, which the catchphrase being “The time is meow.”
Lowe will next been seen in Pantelion Film’s “How To Be a Latin Lover,” opposite Eugenio Derbez, Salma Hayek, Kristen Bell and Michael Cera.
“Super Troopers 2” doesn’t yet have a release date, but will be distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures.
