Jean-Marc Vallée and Reese Witherspoon are reuniting on “Big Little Lies,” an HBO miniseries set to premiere next year. An adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s best-selling novel of the same name, it finds the “Wild” director and star working on both a smaller and wider canvas. Watch the first trailer below.
““What do you look at in the ocean? What’s out there?” a girl asks Witherspoon’s character in the early moments, which are accompanied by the Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.” The rest of the minute-long clip is light on plot but heavy on imagery, much of it oceanic. “It’s full of life, dreams, mystery…” responds Witherspoon. “Big Little Lies” concerns three different women living in a beachside community in the aftermath of a tragedy.
Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, Zoë Kravitz co-star in the seven-episode series, which doesn’t yet have an official premiere date.
