Euthanasia isn’t often fodder for comedies, but that looks to be the approach Lifetime is taking with “Mary Kills People,” an upcoming dramedy series starring “Hannibal” mainstay Caroline Dhavernas. The network has just picked the show up and is planning to premiere it next year.
“Mary Kills People” went into production under the joint banner of Entertainment One and Cameron Pictures in Toronto this summer. Tara Armstrong, who previously worked as a writer on “Private Eyes,” co-executive produces and created the series. “As ‘UnReal’ drives Lifetime’s position as a destination for some of the strongest female characters on television, we are thrilled to add to our growing scripted lineup ‘Mary Kills People,’ a unique, rich drama with elements of humor and a fascinatingly complex protagonist that we are thrilled to feature on our network,” Liz Gateley of Lifetime said in a statement.
Holly Dale (“The Americans”) is directing all six episodes of the show’s first season, which finds its single-mother heroine working as an ER doctor by day and moonlighting as a euthanasiast. Jay Ryan, Richard Short, Lyriq Bent, Greg Bryk and Charlotte Sullivan are all set to co-star in “Mary Kills People.”
