There are obvious ways in which Oscar season campaigns take off: Lunches. “For Your Consideration” ads. Talk show appearances. And then there are the film critics. While much of the country may not realize it, the awards handed out by various film critics groups throughout the fall can wind up influencing awards campaigns in a number of ways. But those outcomes depend on what critics get to see and how they choose to vote. (Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” may or may not make the looming deadline.)
