"Three years in the making... created by over 80 young Canadian filmmakers and has so far been funded out of pocket."

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress, as presented by the creators themselves. At the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a project you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

The Benz

Logline: Chased by an evil lease collector, three brothers embark on an outrageous road-trip in an effort to protect their late father’s prized vintage Benz.

Elevator Pitch:

“The Benz” follows the journey of three brothers after their father’s death. They steal his beloved vintage Benz to protect it from being reclaimed and embark on a road-trip of self-discovery across Northern Ontario. Three years in the making, “The Benz” is created by over 80 young Canadian filmmakers and has so far been funded out of pocket. We have launched our Kickstarter campaign to help us finish post-production in order to truly showcase what is possible by emerging filmmakers.

Production Team:

Zachary Silverstein – Director/Cinematographer
Matthew Woods – Co-director/Cinematographer
Sam Godfrey – Writer
Aaron Labbe – Audio Engineer and Composer

About the Film:

Inspired by storytelling techniques used in films like “The Darjeeling Limited,” “Bonnie and Clyde,” and “Little Miss Sunshine,” we aimed to create a film with a hand-made charm that would introduce audiences to the hilarious trials and tribulations of our characters’ road trip.

The production of “The Benz” was an incredible learning experience for the 80+ emerging Canadian filmmakers involved. For most of us, it was the largest project we had ever tackled. This meant jointly discovering how to create a stunning and immersive film of high production value and wide scope on almost no budget.

Current Status: Fundraising for post production (to be used for original score, VFX, editing, colour correction, audio mastering, filming extra scenes, and film festival submissions).
