Adam Savage Tours Peter Jackson’s Prop Collection In New ‘Tested’ Video

See Savage and Jackson discuss the mechanics of the HAL 3000 eye from "2001: A Space Odyssey."

After Adam Savage ended his tenure on the science entertainment show “MythBusters,” he’s been keeping busy as an editor and contributor to Tested.com, a site that focuses on technology, science and any and all emerging discoveries. He hosts a podcast on the site entitled “Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project” that features a conversation between Savage, Tested co-founders Will Smith and Norman Chan and inventor and builder Simone Giertz. He also produces many videos for the site that tour his own collection of props and memorabilia, but today, Tested released a video that features Savage touring director Peter Jackson’s prop collection. During the tour, Savage and Jackson primarily discuss only one of the Jackson’s props: the HAL 3000 eye from “2001: A Space Odyssey.” They examine how Kubrick must have created it, when Jackson first acquired the prop as well as Jackson’s overall prop collection philosophy and how he tends to collect items that enchanted him in his youth.

Jackson is best known for directing the critically acclaimed, commercially successful “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which collectively won over 17 Oscars, as well as the most recent “Hobbit” prequel trilogy. Jackson has also directed “Heavenly Creatures,” “The Frighteners,” “King Kong” and “The Lovely Bones.”
