Earlier this year, Asif Kapadia won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for “Amy.” Now, the filmmaker is bringing the story of another iconic British artist to the screen in the short film “The Tale of Thomas Burberry.”
The video serves as Burberry’s 2016 holiday campaign and celebrates the British fashion house’s 160 year anniversary. The trailer stars Domhnall Gleeson as founder Thomas Burberry, who is seen working on designs and taking viewers on a whirlwind of events that shaped the brand’s history.
Sienna Miller stars as his love interest who is seen wearing gorgeous dresses and custom Burberry pieces and Dominic West portrays polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, who asked Burberry to design protective clothing for his expedition.
Lily James is also seen as pilot Betty Dawson, wearing the fashion house’s iconic Heritage Trench Coat. Her character is inspired by Betty Kirby-Green, who in 1937 broke the world record for a return from England to Cape Town in an airplane named The Burberry.
“The Tale of Thomas Burberry” is written by Matt Charman and also features the song “Diminuendo” performed by Lawless featuring Britt Warner.
Kapadia is currently working on the documentary “Maradona,” which centers on the career of celebrated soccer player Diego Maradona.
