The original movie starred Winona Ryder as Veronica, a popular girl who in order to get out of the snobby clique that’s destroying her good-girl reputation teamed up with a dark sociopath J.D. (Christian Slater) in a plot to kill the cool kids. Per Deadline, Doherty, who originally portrayed Heather Duke, will play a “pivotal unnamed character in the pilot.”

The “Heathers” anthology is described as a black comedy that takes place in present day. Grace Cox stars as Veronica, with newcomer James Scully as J.D. and Brendan Scannell, Melanie Field and Jasmine Matthew as the new Heathers.

The pilot is written by Jason Micallef, with Leslye Headland directing. Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi serve as executive producers. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles.
