The new sports documentary “Ice Guardians” examines one of the most controversial, provocative positions in the NHL: the enforcer, an unofficial role who deters and respond to violent oppositional play. A punishing profession born out of an instinct to self-police a brutal game, the role now finds itself under harsh scrutiny as the press and TV news cast debate its violent nature. But what purpose does it actually serve? The film profiles many former and active NHL players, including Kelly “Chaser” Chase, Dave “The Hammer” Schultz, Luke Gazdic in order to examine the heart of the enforcer. Watch an exclusive clip for the film below.
The film is directed by Brett Harvey. He previously wrote and directed the documentary “The Culture High,” which explores the history of marijuana prohibition and reveals the truth behind the arguments governing both those who support and oppose the existing marijuana laws. Harvey also wrote and directed “The Union: The Business Behind Getting High,” which examines British Columbia’s illegal marijuana trade and how it has ballooned into a major business.
