Netflix Adds Offline Viewing for Phones and Tablets, Allowing You to Binge-Watch ‘The Crown’ on a Plane

Not all titles are available for download — at least not yet.

Amazon pleased many Prime subscribers when it made certain streaming titles available to download and watch offline, and now Netflix is following suit. The company announced the move in a press release this morning, noting that the new feature has been requested by members hoping to, for instance, binge-watch “Stranger Things” while on a plane or in other locations with limited and/or expensive internet access.

Viewers can now click a new download button on a film or television show’s details page and watch it later without being online. Not every title is available for offline viewing, but several Netflix Originals already are: “Orange Is the New Black,” “Narcos,” “The Crown.”

The feature comes included in all plans at no extra cost and can be used on phones and tablets — just not desktop computers and laptops.
