The Academy Awards telecast isn’t until February, but some of the Oscars have already been handed out. At last weekend’s Governors Awards, the Academy continued its tradition of honoring veterans of show business at an upscale dinner party that also functions as a marketing opportunity for awards campaigns. Anne Thompson was in the room, talking to the talent, and she shares her experiences in this week’s episode of Screen Talk.

Then, the co-hosts turn to new movies. Eric Kohn shares his thoughts on “The Edge of Seventeen,” which leads to a discussion of whether or not Hailee Steinfeld has a shot in the Oscar race.

The duo also both share their appreciation for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” However, they can’t seem to find common ground when it comes to the shortcomings of Tom Ford’s “Nocturnal Animals.”
