ThFans of the BBC series “Sherlock,” the popular modern update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s signature sleuth and his trusty partner, have been eagerly awaiting since 2014 for a new season of the series, with only a one-off holiday special this past January to satiate their hunger. Now, the new season is only a little over a month away, but until then, the Masterpiece PBS Facebook page has released a host of new photos from the season. Check them out below.
These photos offer some clues as to what will happen in the new season. The first photo features Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes suspiciously eyeing John Watson (Martin Freeman) and Mary Watson’s (Abby Abbington) new child. The second photo features Sherlock and his brother Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gattis). The fourth photo features Toby Jones as new character Culverton Smith. Finally, the sixth photo as Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, Sherlock’s landlady.
“Sherlock” first premiered in July, 2010 and has since aired ten 90-minute long episodes. Each episode is based on one of Doyle’s novels or short stories. The new episode “The Six Thatchers” is loosely based upon the short story “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons.”
The fourth season of “Sherlock” will premiere on BBC in the UK and on PBS in the United States on January 1, 2017.
