President Obama’s first meeting with President-elect Donald Trump has brought cringeworthy television to a new level. On Thursday’s episode of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah gave what amounted to a play-by-play of what had to have been one of the most awkward exchanges ever captured on video in the Oval Office, Vulture reports. Noah pointed out that during the meeting, the bust of Martin Luther King Jr. was visible directly behind Trump.
“That bust right now must be thinking, I have a nightmare,” Noah said, before showing a clip in which Obama stated that he and Trump had a good conversation discussing domestic policy and foreign policy. “I bet Trump asked to see domestic policy’s birth certificate to make sure it wasn’t foreign.”
Noah equated the event to someone meeting their worst Twitter enemy in person, then turned to the subject of Michelle Obama’s meeting with Melania Trump. “What was the meeting between Michelle and Melania like?” he asked. “Was Melania just plagiarizing her on the fly?”
Perhaps most remarkable is how cordial both Obama and Trump were in front of all the cameras. “That is one hell of a performance, especially by President Obama, which means at least one black person should get nominated for an Oscar this year,” Noah said. “I’m going to go throw up now.”
