News of an upcoming J.J. Abrams project should always be taken with a grain of salt, given his habit of surprising audiences with his “mystery box,” but here’s something to mull over: Bad Robot has moved “God Particle” off its schedule and placed a new “Cloverfield” on it. It’s already been speculated that the two are in fact one and the same, despite the different release dates — “God Particle” was slated for February 24, while the third “Cloverfield” installment has been penciled in for October 27.
David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd comprise the ensemble cast of “Particle,” which takes place on an international space station where a group of astronauts come across something shocking. That premise is just vague enough to fit into the “Cloverfield” world, as this year’s “10 Cloverfield Lane” — which wasn’t announced as such until just a few months before release — concerned a group of people in a fallout shelter who likewise come across something shocking.
Julius Onah (“The Girl Is in Trouble”) directed “God Particle” from a script by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung.
