It’s been a roller coaster ride for Spider-Man on the big screen over the past 14 years. Sam Raimi’s original trilogy gave us one of the best superhero movies of all time (“Spider-Man 2”) and one of the most misguided (“Spider-Man 3), while Marc Webb’s reboot quickly became the laughing stock of blockbuster universe building and died out.
Fortunately, Marvel’s web-slinger rehab started strong with a small but memorable debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” and now the first footage from the standalone adventure is here to make us forget about the superhero’s shaky big screen past. Seriously, this looks like the most fun Spider-Man has ever had at the movies, and we’re already hooked.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” directed by Jon Watts, finds young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) navigating the bumpy waters of high school while fighting crime by night. The cast includes Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine and Marisa Tomei. Plot details have been kept under wraps, and the first teaser below is more concerned with kick-ass action and young hijinks. If there’s a more infectious superhero movie, please tell us.
The superhero film opens July 7, 2017. Watch the first teaser trailer below.
