Danny Boyle’s “Trainspotting” sequel, “T2 Trainspotting,” arrives March 3 with all of the key members of the original cast including Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle. But what about the original addiction of McGregor’s Mark “Rent Boy” Renton?
A new promotional featurette shows that he’s defeated that nasty heroin addiction, but in the process of choosing life he found another one.
“Renton has replaced his drug addiction with endorphin addiction,” says McGregor in the clip. “He’s become [a] runner. So he comes back with a lot of baggage and a lot of guilt.”
Broken from his past troubles, Renton returns home after living in Holland to the people who know him best. Upon his return, he’s greeted by his former friends and a wave of emotions he tries to control.
“T2 Trainspotting” is loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s book “Porno.” The writer previously told NME that the film is “epic” and is “very excited about it.”
“Once we saw the script, everybody was confident that we were certainly not going to trash the legacy of the first film and that we were going to build on it,” said Welsh. “I’m very, very excited about it and I think people are going to be excited too.”
