David Mackenzie is the latest feature filmmaker to make the jump to prestige television, directing the pilot of “Damnation,” a period drama about a revolutionary preacher. Heading to USA Network in October, the series pits the small town working man against fat cat business tycoons during the heyday of the industrial revolution. USA released its first trailer today, and although its too early to tell, the trailer makes “Damnation” a definite contender.
An epic saga set in the 1930’s American heartland, the series stars Killian Scott (“71”) as a rabble rouser masquerading as a small town preacher who hopes to start an insurrection agains the status quo. Unbeknownst to him, one tycoon has hired a professional strikebreaker (Logan Marshall-Green) to stop the uprising. Little do they know, they two men share a secret past.
“Longmire” scribe Tony Tost wrote the script, and also serves as executive producer. In addition to Tost, “Damnation” has a jam-packed roster of producers that includes James Mangold (“Logan”), Guymon Casady (“Game of Thrones”) and Daniel Rappaport (“Office Space”).
