Wishes and Fears for Season 8

Cotser-Waldau hasn’t read any scripts yet but “can’t wait to find out” what happens in the final season, which for now is expected to be released sometime in 2019. That hasn’t stopped the actor from thinking about what may befall his character.

“For all we know, they’re all probably going to come back as White Walkers or the dead,” he said. “That’s my biggest fear of this new season: I’m going to read the scripts, and that’s what they’re going to say, and I’m going to face five hours of makeup every day. I’ll be an undead zombie. There’s always been a part of me that wanted to become, like [The Holy Grail] from Monty Python, the knight that keeps fighting when he lost all of his limbs and says, ‘Let’s call it a draw.’”

As for what Coster-Waldau would like to see Jaime get up to, he said, “Obviously I’d want to be involved in this battle somehow. Jaime will be well-prepared since he’s one of the few who wields a Valyrian steel blade. “He’s got the right sword for the fight. He has a Valyrian steel sword, which is very effective,” said the actor. “I think now he knows that he has one, Brienne of Tarth has one, Jon Snow has one, and Samwell Tarly has one. And of course Arya has a Valyrian steel dagger. I think it’ll be great to use that and fight some of those disgusting beings.”

He also added, “My hope is that I’d like him to meet Bran and I’d like him to apologize to Bran Stark because that wasn’t a nice thing he did in Episode 1 [shoving him out the tower window]… And obviously I hope there’s some kind of scene again with Jaime and Cersei because that is the main relationship. I hope that they get to have one face-to-face before we end the show, but who knows.”

Coster-Waldau also has become invested in the romantic relationship of one potential couple in the series.

“I saw Episode 6 with Tormund Giantsbane, when I saw him talk about Brienne. I for sure felt like they’re meant for each other,” he said. “Tormund Giantsbane and Brienne of Tarth; that’s going to be. He was so excited, like, ‘Imagine the babies we’re going to have.’ It was so beautiful. I’m 100 percent on that train for sure. What is it called, ‘Torienne’? I’m supporting them.

“You don’t want Brienne to waste any romantic time with Jaime Lannister because he’s a mess, he’s so fucked up, he’s been with his own sister for so long. It’s disgusting. He’s never going to be a normal human being. Go with this guy so straightforward, Tormund Giantsbane. He’s strong, he’s powerful, he’s funny and he’s going to take care of her. It’s perfect. I can see that happening.”

“Game of Thrones” is expected to return for its eighth and final season some time in 2019.
