If a Target listing that may or may not have been an accident is to be believed, a new “Game of Thrones” video game could be on the way. That it’s listed as “Bethesda: Game of Thrones” will only makes the news more exciting for fans, as Bethesda is the studio responsible for such acclaimed role-playing games as “Skyrim” and “Fallout.” Both are marked by expansive settings through which players can move freely, a bevy of side quests, and memorable side characters — all of which would be right at home in a “Thrones” game.
The possibility will surely come as wish-fulfilling good news for the no-doubt huge swath of fans of both “Fallout”-style RPGs and “Game of Thrones”; many have been hoping for a playable, open-world Westeros since the show first premiered in 2011. Other “Thrones” games have already been made, including two RPGs, but none of them have been on the level of a AAA title like “Skyrim.”
Still, nothing has been confirmed yet, and the listing may have been a slipup. With the season-seven finale “The Dragon and the Wolf” airing tonight, however, now would be a fitting time for news not related to the show itself.
