The fall movie season introduces a ton of acclaimed titles and potential Oscar contenders that it’s hard sometimes to remember all the other great movies that were released prior to awards season. “A Ghost Story” is one of those movies. David Lowery’s spiritual meditation was released in July by A24 and earned some of the best reviews of the year for any indie film. The movie officially comes to iTunes Movies today, and the distributor celebrated by debuting a film from Lowery’s past on Twitter.
Apparently, Lowery directed “Poltergeist”-inspired short film below when he was only seven years old. Clearly the filmmaker isn’t messing around when he says all he’s ever wanted to do is make movies. Even at seven years old, Lowery knew how to create atmosphere and tell a narrative. No wonder he’s one of the best storytellers in the business.
“A Ghost Story” stars Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck as a married couple whose relationship ends after the husband dies in a car accident. The man lives on as a ghost, forced to watch his wife grieve and move on. As the years past, the ghost remains and slips through time.
