With “Saturday Night Live” back on the air and Donald Trump still in the White House, you can likely guess how last night’s season premiere began. Alec Baldwin returned to impersonate 45 once again — sorry, Darrell Hammond — in an all-too-timely sketch that saw him on the phone with Carmen Yulin Cruz (Melissa Villaseñor), the Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It went about as well as their real-life exchanges. Watch below.
“Ma’am, I don’t know if you know this, but you are on an island in the water. We want to help you, but we have to take care of America first,” Trump says by way of explanation for the delay in assisting the people of Puerto Rico, who have been devastated by Hurricane Maria. “Wait, you do know we’re a U.S. territory, don’t you?” Cruz asks.
Trump, of course, does not. “I mean, I do,” he stammers, “but not many people know that.”
Things don’t go well between Trump and Cruz, but at least Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Aidy Bryant) is still on his side. Watch the full cold open below.
