Dave Chappelle has not one but two specials premiering on Netflix tonight: “The Bird Revelation” and “Equanimity.” Both are available to watch at midnight and come as part of the streaming service’s push to become a destination for stand-up comedy, which until recently included Louis C.K. as well. As you bide your time, consider watching a brief teaser for “The Bird Revelation” below.
“Sometimes the funniest thing to say is mean,” Chappelle says. “You know what I mean? Tough position to be in. So I say a lot of mean things, but you guys gotta remember: I’m not saying it to be mean. I’m saying it because it’s funny. And everything’s funny ’till it happens to you.”
“The Bird Revelation” was filmed in front of a small crowd at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles last month. His two prior Netflix specials, “The Age of Spin” and “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” were released earlier this year and are said to have made the comedian $20 million each.
