Marvel has released the first photo of “Captain Marvel,” which stars Brie Larson as the eponymous superhero. Production has just begun on the film, the 21st in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and the first to revolve around a female superhero.
“Production has begun on Marvel Studios’ @CaptainMarvel…@BrieLarson receives instructions from Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander, on a recent visit to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada to research her character,” Marvel tweeted. Larson has been set in costume on the set of “Captain Marvel,” but this marks the first time the studio has offered an official glimpse of its newest heroine.
Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, and Gemma Chan co-star in the film, which is being directed by “Half Nelson” helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. “Captain Marvel” will be released theatrically on March 8, 2019.
