“Venom” isn’t the only upcoming Tom Hardy project to be excited about these days. The actor is following in the footsteps of Robert De Niro (“The Untouchables”) by bringing notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone back to the big screen in the upcoming biographical drama “Fonzo.” Hardy has shared a first look of himself in character to his Instagram page.

“Fonzo” is directed by Josh Trank, best known for making the found-footage superhero film “Chronicle” and the critically maligned “Fantastic Four” reboot. Trank became infamous for publicly feuding with 20th Century Fox over final cut of his superhero film and for the rumors that his on set behavior during the making of the film was hostile and inappropriate. “Fonzo” marks a potential comeback for the 34-year-old filmmaker.

The movie takes place 10 years into Capone’s prison sentence. The 47-year-old gangster begins suffering from dementia and becomes haunted by his violent past. Joining Hardy on screen is Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle McLachlan, and “Dunkirk” breakout Jack Lowden.

“Fonzo” is now in production. Check out Hardy’s first look image below.
