Jordan Peele has partnered with BuzzFeed to record a new message for every American about “fake news.” The video begins with a message from President Obama, who claims, “We’re entering an era in which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point in time — even if they would never say those things.”
Obama proceeds to make some interesting claims, such as “‘Black Panther’s’ Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) was right” and “Ben Carson is in the Sunken Place.” He also says, “President Trump is a total and complete dipshit.”
But it turns out the video doesn’t star Obama at all. The video reveals that Obama is actually a digital version of the former President that is being voiced by Peele. Peele’s Obama impersonation is uncanny, as evidenced by his time playing the President on Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele.” The reveal drives home Peele’s message that you can’t always believe what you see or hear on the internet.
Peele as Obama ends the video with a simple and clear message: “Stay woke, bitches.” The writer-director won an Oscar this year for writing “Get Out” and is set to direct his follow-up feature sometime in the fall. He’s also attached a producer on CBS All Access’ “Twilight Zone” reboot.
