FX has released the trailer for “American Horror Story” season 8, which will be known as “Apocalypse.” Jessica Lange is returning to Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology for the first time since its fourth season, with longtime co-star Sarah Paulson directing the episode in which she graces viewers with her presence; neither are in this preview, but you’re welcome to watch it below anyway.
Murphy revealed in June that this season will be a crossover between the show’s first (“Murder House”) and third (“Coven”) seasons. At the Television Critics Association summer tour, Paulson and executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall revealed some salient details about what this “Apocalypse” holds in store for viewers:
“I’m just going to say one thing: The story begins with the end of the world, and then our world begins,” said Woodall. “It starts in the real world. It’s very tangible, and it’s a familiar hammock.”
“It’s the end of the world. The end of the world. It’s the biggest—,” Paulson added before cutting herself off.
“If we’re here, the world didn’t totally end,” Woodall said. “There’s a mystery to the show that’s better unfolded. […] Unfortunately, I can’t give you specifics about what the devil child will do.”
“But it ain’t pretty,” Paulson said.
Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Emma Roberts, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, and Billie Lourd will also be returning to “AHS,” with newcomer Joan Collins joining them. “Apocalypse” premieres Wesdnesday, September 12.
