There really isn’t any chance of Donald Glover’s animated “Deadpool” series being revived, in case you were holding out hope. FX CEO John Landgraf confirmed as much at the Television Critics Association summer tour Friday, answering Variety with a simple “no” when asked about the possibility — not that he seems happy about it.
“I think that Marvel will revive it because they have the rights,” he added. “They own the IP and they have the rights to do an animated adult series based on any of the X-Men characters, and based on Deadpool specifically.
“They didn’t want to do the show that Donald and Stephen [Glover] wrote. We would have done [the] show that Donald and Stephen wrote, but it wasn’t our decision. When Marvel decided not to do that show, we parted company with them as did Donald and Stephen. Now it’s totally up to them [Marvel] whether they hire someone else to do a different show.”
FX revealed that the series had been axed due to “creative differences” in March. Fans of the Glovers still have the chance to see their work on “Atlanta,” which just earned 16 Emmy nominations — more than any other comedy series.
