Before Marvel fans find out the fate of their favorite superheroes following the catastrophic events of “Avengers: Infinity War,” the MCU rewinding the clock to the 1990s for “Captain Marvel.” The March 2019 release casts Oscar winner Brie Larson in the title role and is the first MCU movie to feature a standalone female superhero in the title.
“Captain Marvel” follows Danvers as she goes from U.S. Air Force fighter pilot to a trusted member of Starforce, an elite military team comprised of members of the Kree alien race. Larson’s superhero is half kree and half human, and she finds herself right in the middle of a war between two alien worlds after she returns to Earth.
The credits scene of “Avengers: Infinity War” saw Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury paging Captain Marvel for help to defeat Thanos, which means the standalone film will explore the origins of their friendship. Jackson is appearing as a younger Fury, who we meet in “Marvel” as a S.H.I.E.L.D. office worker. The supporting cast includes Jude Law and Lee Pace.
Disney will release “Captain Marvel” nationwide March 8, 2019. Watch the first trailer below.
