For those who don’t closely follow New York state politics, you might be surprised to learn that Cynthia Nixon, instead of pursuing the Oscar she needs to earn an EGOT, has taken a step back from acting to run for the governorship of New York State. But she hasn’t completely left entertainment behind, enlisting comedian John Early and fond memories of her most iconic role for the campaign ad below.

Early, known for roles in “Search Party,” “Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later,” and “Portlandia,” channels his inner (and outer) Carrie Bradshaw to ask Nixon questions about her policies, albeit in the guise of “how did Carrie afford that apartment on the Upper East Side?”

Nixon does not have a good answer to that question, but does pledge to address rental laws in New York as a means to help create affordable housing…

…let’s not get into the issues here. Whether or not you agree with Nixon politically, it’s fun to see her openly acknowledge her past, while still looking forward to the future of New York State. Plus, Early really nails that Carrie Bradshaw “I couldn’t help but wonder…” tone. Check out the ad below.
