Rest in peace, Frank Underwood. Netflix has gone ahead and spoiled the fate of Kevin Spacey’s character in the latest teaser for the final season of “House of Cards.” The 25-second clip features Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) standing in front of Frank’s grave, confirming the speculation that Spacey’s character will be killed off the series. Netflix already announced Wright would be taking over the series after Spacey was fired in the wake of numerous sexual harassment and abuse allegations made against him.
“I’ll tell you this though, Francis. When they bury me, it won’t be in my backyard,” Claire says in the teaser. “And when they pay their respects, they’ll have to wait in line.”
In typical “House of Cards” fashion, Claire breaks the fourth wall and says the last line of dialogue directly into camera. Claire’s words are self-refrential to the Spacey scandal in the way they make it clear nobody is sad to see Frank dead and gone in the world of “House of Cards.” Netflix has been leaning into Spacey’s firing in the marketing for the final season, dating back to Claire celebrating her independence from Frank in a July 4 teaser.
Netflix is set to debut the final season of “House of Cards” on November 2. Watch the teaser below.
