The Telluride Film Festival provided a major snapshot of the Oscar race, setting the stage for the latest edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, and now it appears that there are three major titles in contention for best picture. But there are still movies left to screen, and a lot of campaigning ahead, before this busy fall season really takes shape. Who has the upper hand? And, also: Is there more to film festivals this time of year than awards season chatter? In this week’s episode of Screen Talk, Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson gather in a Toronto hotel room to set the stage for the latest edition of TIFF to talk through all these topics, unpacking last weekend’s events in Colorado while anticipating the busy movie days ahead.
