Three dramatic makeup transformations are competing for the Hair & Makeup Oscar: Christian Bale ages over 50 years as political operative Dick Cheney in “Vice,” Margot Robbie plays a pock-marked Queen Elizabeth in “Mary Queen of Scots” and Swedish Oscar submission “Border” goes into the fantastical with trolls in love. While this branch often includes Scandinavian makeup artists (see “A Man Called Ove”), there’s a good shot that like Gary Oldman and “Darkest Hour” last year, Oscars will go both to the “Vice” actor and the artists who helped him become Cheney.
Contenders in order of likelihood to win:
“Vice”
“Mary Queen of Scots”
