It was a busy week for awards season, as the Gotham Awards held the first ceremony of the fall, while the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners back to back. Each event celebrated a different best film winner — “The Rider,” “Green Book,” and “Roma,” respectively — but these events coincided with another major development of the season: top 10 lists. As critics and journalists begin compiling their favorite movies of 2018, a dense year comes into focus.
