Jim Hemphill is an award-winning filmmaker whose work has screened at the Sundance Film Festival, American Cinematheque, and Facets Muiltimedia, among many other venues and film festivals. In addition to his moviemaking endeavors, Jim is a film historian whose essays have appeared in the Chicago Reader, Film Comment, Film Quarterly, and elsewhere. He is a researcher at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and has recorded audio commentaries for the British Film Institute, Indicator, Shout Factory and other DVD labels. He is also an in-house moderator at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema and at the Egyptian and Aero theatres in Los Angeles, where he has moderated discussions with Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovich, Jane Campion, and hundreds of other filmmakers. Jim regularly hosts “Clubhouse Conversations” both in person and online for the American Society of Cinematographers, and is one of the hosts of the ASC’s podcast.
