Producers Guild Nominates Documentary Contenders
The Producers Guild of America (PGA)  has named five Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures nominees to contend for the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards. The rest of the PGA nominees will be named on January 5. The Producers Guild Award winners will be presented on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

With such a crowded field, any new focus of attention is helpful for documentary award contenders, although the Oscar doc branch already sent in their shortlist ballots on Friday. Asif Kapadia’s “Amy” (A24) and Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The Look of Silence” (Drafthouse Films) continue to lead the field.

During the awards show, the Producers Guild will also present special honors to Jim GianopulosDavid Heyman and Shonda Rhimes, among others.
