Snoop Dogg will be pulling for Jordan Peele on Sunday night. At the 90th Academy Awards, Peele and his film “Get Out” are up for three awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
“I think ‘Get Out’ should win,” Snoop told IndieWire on Friday. “That was a great movie. The story. The cinematography. The way that the black man lived at the end, both of them!”
Snoop has known Peele for a while — but mostly from the days when Peele’s “Key and Peele” partner Keegan-Michael Key would impersonate him on “Mad TV.”
“I’m rooting for Jordan Peele and the whole cast of ‘Get Out,'” Snoop added. “He got him some money now!”
Beyond “Get Out,” Snoop is most excited to watch his pal Jimmy Kimmel once again host the Oscars. The hip-hop icon and the TV host first hit it off 20 years ago on Kimmel’s “The Man Show.” (Coincidentally, Kimmel would also impersonate Snoop Dogg back when he was on KROQ’s “Kevin and Bean” morning radio show.)
When “Jimmy Kimmel Live” launched in January 2003, Kimmel tapped Snoop to serve as his first week-long guest co-host.
“I got Jimmy started,” Snoop quipped. “You’re welcome, Jimmy! I mean, that’s my man. That’s what we do, we kickstart each other. Jimmy was a friend of mine before he got on the Jimmy Kimmel show. He was a friend of mine from ‘The Man Show,’ with him and Adam Carolla, and you know we used to fuck with each other real talk back then.
“So when he got the gig on ABC he reached out to me because he was like, this my first week and they really don’t believe that I’m strong enough to do it by myself. I need a sidekick or a co-host. I said, shit I’ll do it for you. The first five days we were doing all kinds of shit, smoking and drinking!”
Snoop said he wasn’t surprised to see that, 15 years later, Kimmel is now so established that he’s hosting the Oscars.
“Now he’s the man,” Snoop said. “He’s supposed to [host the Oscars]. He’s a bad motherfucker. He’s the shit at what he do. I mean, I love him. He’s funny, he’s articulate and he knows how to hold the audience. One thing about a host, if you host an Oscars, that’s a different crowd. You’ve got old people in there, young people in there, you’ve got different mentality. You’ve got to be able to be witty enough to walk that line. And Jimmy is fucking perfect for that.”
