Michel Hazanavicius’s “The Artist” led the winners of the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Awards, taking the best picture prize.
The remaining prizes were significantly split between a group of films, including “Hugo” (best director, best art direction) and “The Descendants” (best actor, best adapted screenplay). Michelle Williams took best actress for “My Week With Marilyn,” while Albert Brooks (“Drive”) and Octavia Spencer (“The Help”) took supporting acting honors.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the awards was Will Reiser’s script for “50/50” taking original screenplay honors over the likes of “The Artist” and “Midnight in Paris,” perhaps suggesting momentum for the film is more considerable than some expected.
