Sophie Turner on Quibi

Quibi is coming. That’s not so much a threat — like it might sound — but instead a warning for your personal Peak TV preparation purposes. The mobile short-form streaming service backed by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman is set to launch on April 6, with episodes of each of its series clocking in at a runtime of under 10 minutes. “Quibi” is an abbreviation for “quick bites,” you see, in case you missed the Super Bowl ad.

After inking approximately a gazillion deals with big-name talent and an unveiling at Sundance, Quibi is set to release approximately 175 series within its first year, 50 of which will be available during the official launch on April 6th, for $5 a month for its ad-supported service and $8 for no ads. And if you’re feeling ambivalent about Quibi the streaming service is offering people a 90-day free trial if you sign up before April 6.

IndieWire will be keeping track of every new Quibi trailer—and updating this list right here—as they drop:

50 States of Fright

Quibi’s bite-sized description: The first installment of “50 States of Fright” will explore stories based on urban legends from Michigan, Kansas, Oregon, Minnesota, and Florida taking viewers deeper into the horrors that lurk just beneath the surface of our country.

“Agua Donkeys”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Very cool. Pretty mellow. So sick. MP Cunningham and Jeremy Jackson. Agua Donkeys. Coming April 2020. Only on Quibi.”

Yep, this was originally a short film; now Quibi is turning it into a series. According to Deadline, Cunningham and Jackson play employees at a pool cleaning company named — you guessed it — Agua Donkeys. Despite the stereotyped Southern California vibes on offer in the trailer…the show is set in Utah.

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “These dog houses are OFF THE LEASH luxurious. Because today and every day is #LoveYourPetDay. Tyler Cameron and Delia Kenza. Barkitecture.”

Quibi is doing what the other streaming services won’t do: It’s giving us a doggie home renovation show. Good dogs, good dog houses. That’s what it’s all about. Also, there are people on this show too.

Chrissy’s Court

Quibi’s bite-sized description: Real people. Real cases. And real, legally binding decisions. If you thought Chrissy Teigen couldn’t become an actual courtroom judge, you’ve been overruled.

Quibi’s bite-sized description: From the Creator and Executive Producer of Chopped comes “Dishmantled”, a high-octane cooking competition that will literally blow your socks off. Hosted by Tituss Burgess, each episode starts with the cannon-blasting of a mystery food dish into the faces of two blindfolded chefs. They’ll use their culinary prowess to identify the exploded dish and then race against the clock to recreate it. Whichever chef comes closest to the original dish wins a cash prize.

“Elba Vs. Block”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Insane stunts, cars, and superstars. Idris Elba and Ken Block go head to head to see who’s the best behind the driver’s seat. Elba Vs. Block.”

This eight-episode Quibi series sees multi-hyphenate Idris Elba face-off against professional rally driver Ken Block in various car-based setpieces, such as the “Flaming Obstacle Course” and “Wall of Death.”

“Fierce Queens”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Eat. Prey. Love.”

Narrated by Reese Witherspoon, “Fierce Queens” will explore phenomenal female animals: the rebel matriarchs, powerful leaders and dangerous lovers of the natural world. From hyenas to fireflies, meerkats to humpback whales, the documentary series will bring you the most dramatic natural history stories from a fresh female perspective.

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Will Forte. Kaitlin Olson. Renovations & cartels. Flipped.”

In this comedy series produced by Funny or Die, Will Forte and Kaitlin Olson star as a “chronically underemployed” couple who set out to become the next great home-renovation show due. When they find $500,000 in a house they’re attempting to renovate, they end up on the radar of a cartel (played by Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, and Arturo Castro).

Quibi synopsis: “#FreeRayshawn” tells the story of a young, black Iraq War veteran named Rayshawn (Stephan James) who is set up by New Orleans police on a drug deal, runs for his life, and takes refuge inside his apartment building with his girlfriend and child. With New Orleans PD and the SWAT team outside ready to storm his home, a social media frenzy begins as community members and news outlets arrive at the scene. During this growing mayhem, a sympathetic cop named Steven Poincy (Laurence Fishburne) plays the role of negotiator, and, over the course of one brutally stressful day, Steven tries to get Rayshawn to calmly surrender in order to avoid an escalation of unnecessary violence.

“The Fugitive”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Wrongfully accused. On the run. The Fugitive. Kiefer Sutherland and Boyd Holbrook.”

Boyd Holbrook stars in this modern, social media-tinged update of the 1960s television series and 1993 Harrison Ford flick of the same name. In this version of the series, Holbrook plays Mike Ferro, a blue-collar worker (and ex-con) framed for an explosion on a Los Angeles train. Kiefer Sutherland also stars, as Detective Clay Bryce, the man leading the charge in finding Ferro.

I Promise

Quibi bite-sized synopsis: “I Promise” is an original documentary series featuring an in-depth look at the first academic year inside the groundbreaking I Promise School that opened its doors in 2018. “I Promise” tells the story of LeBron James’ efforts to close the achievement gap in his hometown of Akron, Ohio through the eyes of the inspiring students who are resetting expectations of their futures. The series will explore the day-to-day trials, triumphs, and life-changing impact of the school staff, students and families working together in a unique, family-first educational environment that embraces the trauma and challenges many face in Akron.

Kirby Jenner’s Tub Time

Quibi’s bite-sized synopsis: Sometimes Kirby Jenner needs a few Quibis away from the rest of the Kardashians. In his new show, Kirby Jenner, he finally gets the spotlight.

“Lena Waithe’s Deal”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: Lena Waithe hates wasting Quibis in her day. In her new show, You Ain’t Got These, she drops sneaker knowledge every week.

The premise of this series seems to be Lena Waithe talking about shoes. So if you’re a sneaker-phile, Quibi has you covered.

“Most Dangerous Game”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Staying alive comes at a price. Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz. Most Dangerous Game.”

From writer Nick Santora (“Breakout Kings,” “Scorpion”) comes “Most Dangerous Game,” a thriller starring Liam Hemsworth and Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz. In the Quibi originals, Hemsworth stars as a terminally ill man who decides he will do anything to be able to care for his pregnant wife — including partaking in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse that could mean a payday of $24.5 million. That is, if he makes it out alive after 24 hours.

“NightGowns with Sasha Velour”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Nothing feels more alive. Sasha Velour welcomes you to NightGowns.”

Described as “part performance documentary, part portrait,” “NightGowns” follows drag queen Sasha Velour as she adapts her monthly theatrical drag showcase into a fully-produced stage performance. All eight episodes in this docuseries will feature a choreographed closing lip-sync number, directed by esteemed music video director Sophie Muller.

“Punk’d with Chance the Rapper

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “Chance The Rapper is now Chance The Pranker. No one is safe.”

“Punk’d” is back, and now it’s on Quibi, with Chance the Rapper as its new Punk’r in charge. Quibi will also be rebooting another MTV classic, in the form of “Singled Out.”

“Shape of Pasta”

Reflective of today’s dating landscape, where everyone is connected, the series will bring online dating to life with a twist — the main dater is linked to the pool of diverse singles through social media.

“The Stranger”

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “To: you. From: your secret admirer. Dane DeHaan and Maika Monroe. The Stranger from Director Veena Sud.”

In a twisted bit of Valentine’s Day synergy, Quibi has released the trailer for its original series “The Stranger.” This thriller stars DeHaan as a homicidal sociopath… and the latest passenger in a rideshare driver’s (Monroe) car. Over the course of 12 hours — which is much shorter in Quibi time — the two end up playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse throughout Los Angeles.

Quibi’s bite-sized description: “There’s only one rule when you’re fighting for your life. Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins. Survive.”

Post-“Game of Thrones,” Sophie Turner stars in this Quibi original as two survivors of a plane crash that strands them on a remote mountain. “Survive” is based on the Alex Morel novel of the same name and also stars Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton”).

Thanks a Million

“Quibi: Coming To A Phone Near You”

Unlike the previous trailers above we’re now getting to the point where we emphasize what Quibi has and how you can watch it. This brief teaser touches on all the shows that have already been announced, while describing them as, yes, “quick bites” you can watch from the comfort of your phone. There’s also meant to be new content every day. By this point, you’re either on the Quibi bandwagon or you aren’t.
