The Real Mikado

Tweetable Logline:
A struggling Asian-American actress moves back to her hometown where she agrees to direct “The Mikado” to try & save the community theater.

Elevator Pitch:
An out of work Asian-American actress in New York runs out of money and moves back in with her parents in the suburbs of Detroit. Her hometown is facing a budget crisis and threatens to shut down the community theater so she agrees to direct a production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado” to try and save it.

Production Team:
Writer/Director: Joyce Wu

About the Production:
The story’s based on my own woeful but hilarious experiences trying to make it as an actress. It’s time for a film with a strong female protagonist, for a film with an Asian-American character who isn’t just an ethnic side kick or a prostitute and for a film set in Detroit that’s actually uplifting.” – Joyce Wu

Current Status:
Pre-production.
