Tweetable Logline:
A supernatural thriller about the first year of motherhood.
Elevator Pitch:
The idea of changelings is age-old, across many cultures – what if the baby you find in the cradle isn’t the one you left there? “The Goblin Baby” is a modern take on changeling tales – bringing the isolation, sleep deprivation and intensity of the first year of motherhood to an old house on the edge of the woods. What if a mother knows must confront goblins –her own and those in the woods – but everyone around her thinks she’s suffering from postpartum depression?
Production Team:
Writer/Director/Producer: Shoshana Rosenbaum
Editor: Amanda Boggs
Cinematographer: Aaron Shirley
Co-producers: Victoria Buksbazen and Robin Noonan-Price
About the Production:
The first year of motherhood was a serious life shift for me – I adored my baby, but I was also sleep-deprived, negotiating new terrain with my husband, and trying to figure out the right balance with work. I’ve always been fascinated with changeling tales — when mothers believe their babies have been switched by goblins or fairies.
A mother’s intuition often tells her what she needs to know, especially with a baby who can’t talk. What if a mother knew her baby had been switched? In our modern age, how would a diagnosis of postpartum depression play into this?
Current Status: fundraising, pre-production
