It would appear that FX is the go-to network for actors creating and starring in their own shows. “Atlanta” will continue in a similar vein as “Louie” and the upcoming “Better Things,” with Donald Glover at the helm of the new series in which he plays an aspiring rapper ascending the ranks of ATL’s hip-hop scene. Watch a new teaser below.
Alluringly described as “‘Twin Peaks’ with rappers,” the half-hour show features Glover alongside Brian Tyree Henry as two cousins trying to kickstart their careers together. The first episode will consist of 10 episodes and also feature LaKeith Lee Stanfield, Zazie Beetz and Bret E. Benson. “‘Atlanta’ draws on Donald’s considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique,” Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, said previously in a statement. “The story is made all the more powerful by the great cast and the contributions of Donald’s fellow executive producer Paul Simms and director Hiro Murai. We can’t wait to for the debut of ‘Atlanta’ next year.”

Glover first signed on to write, executive produce and star in the series three years ago. “Atlanta” will premiere on FX in September and, unlike this teaser, probably won’t go in reverse.
