The gripping psychological thriller is back as we find Detective Luther on a leave of absence from the police force, in the aftermath of his tragic series of losses that cost him a life of normalcy. When asked about Luther’s challenges, Elba said in a BBC America statement that “I think there were bigger challenges when he lost his wife and his best friend… That was a huge pinnacle and something that it took him a long time to get over. And in this [special] there is something similar that happens to him that is definitely traumatic.”
It won’t be long before Luther makes his way back into the field, as this time he finds himself tracking a gruesome cannibalistic serial killer who leaves a trail of dismembered body parts as he prowls his way around the streets of London. In the midst of Luther’s triumphant return, the Detective Chief Inspector is confronted by his darker past at every turn as he struggles to keep himself together.
