In exactly one year the highly-anticipated “Blade Runner” sequel will arrive in theaters. To begin the countdown, the official title for the movie has been revealed: “Blade Runner 2049.”
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film is set in Los Angeles, several decades after the 1982 original, and stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, reprising his role as Rick Deckard.
“The climate has gone berserk — the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” director Denis Villeneuve previously told EW after sharing two spectacular-looking concept art images that depicted the dystopian city skyline.

“Blade Runner 2049” is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. The sci-fi film also features a star-studded cast that includes Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Lennie James, and Barkhad Abdi. Jóhann Jóhannsson, a frequent collaborator with Villeneuve, has also signed on to compose the score.

“Blade Runner 2049” will be released in theaters on October 6, 2017.
